She chooses her career over love, but when she realizes that she is pregnant, she decides to go back to her husband. Her husband (Rahul Singh), who is an ardent fan of the National Award winning movie ‘Satya’ (1998), is not at all happy with her decision. He, in turn, also chooses his career over Jyoti and their child. ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’ is a story of how a woman who is torn between two identities fights against the challenges posed by society and how it finally leads her to her destination where she can be herself. The film is set in the backdrop of Varanasi, which used to be the seat of power in India. The film focuses on Jyoti’s struggle to find her identity in this particular city. The film was shot entirely in Varanasi and Delhi. Director Preety Ali claims that the film is totally true to life and nothing was dramatized for any purpose in it. The film’s title refers to Jyoti’s journey, which she compares with that of Hrithik Roshan in ‘Krrish 3’ (2006). ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’ has been awarded the Best Feature Film on Gender Sensitivity at the 47th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2015. The film was also awarded the Best South Asian Feature under the category ‘Indian Cinema Today’, at the Gulf Film Festival 2016.
